PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high transparency 9,9-bis(4-(2-hydroxyethoxy)phenyl)fluorene showing high transparency and less discoloring and excellent polymerization activity, which is useful as a high transparency resin raw material suitable for a field of optics, and to provide a method for producing the high transparency 9,9-bis(4-(2-hydroxyethoxy)phenyl)fluorene.;SOLUTION: The 9,9-bis(4-(2-hydroxyethoxy)phenyl)fluorene showing a specified pH when dissolved in a solvent is excellent in transparency such as transmittance and a color when fused and in polymerizability when preparing a resin. The 9,9-bis(4-(2-hydroxyethoxy)phenyl)fluorene having specified pH when dissolved in a solvent can be produced by neutralizing with an alkali hydroxide aqueous solution in an stoichiometrically insufficient amount with respect to a hetero acid and a polyacid which constitute a heteropolyacid.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
