PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for positioning a sheet and an image to be transferred on it. ;SOLUTION: In this device, a moving nip 14 is arranged in a feeding passage 1 of a sheet; this moving nip feeds the sheet; and is arranged so as to position the sheet and an image in the lateral direction by moving this moving nip 14 in the lateral direction of the feeding direction. The moving nip is shifted to an intermediate position in the lateral direction in respective positioning stages. Lateral directional positioning means 9, 10 move the sheet before arriving at the moving nip 14 or the image on an image support tool 5 to a lateral directional position so that reset operation of the moving nip 14 is not required in the continuous positioning stages by performing the stage positioning in the intermediate position by the moving nip 14.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
