PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical shaft type straight wing windmill in which risk due to excessive rotation is eliminated, absolute safety under strong wind is secured, and starting performance at a standstill or during low rotation by improving the excessive rotation and the lowering of starting performance which are serious defects in a conventional vertical shaft type straight wing windmill.;SOLUTION: A movable blade is formed on at least a part of the wing of the vertical shaft type straight wing windmill. The windmill comprises a mechanism controlling the movable blade to a pitch angle at which a aerodynamically higher torque is generated at a standstill or during low rotation or a pitch angle at which the rotation is aerodynamically suppressed when the rational speed thereof exceeds a specified level.
