Being the carbon monoxide - vinyl alcoholic copolymer (CO denaturation PVA) which possesses the carbonyl group in the principal chain, it possesses satisfactory water solubility, when making the water composition, it offers new CO denaturation PVA and the production method of being superior in viscosity stability. It does copolymerization with the carbon monoxide and the vinyl ester monomer, under the atmosphere which includes carbon monoxide, or in the alcoholic solvent with the non solvent, saponifying the carbon monoxide - vinyl ester copolymer which is obtained by copolymerization, it makes the method of obtaining CO denaturation PVA. In addition, content of the unit which is based on carbon monoxide is 0.01 - 8 mols %, degree of saponification is 60 - 99.99 mols %, when weight % of density 4 making the aqueous solution, it makes the CO denaturation PVA to which viscosity is 2.0 - 150.0mPa s.
