PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus that reads an image while transferring a recording medium with a fixed posture and via a fixed path.;SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus is provided with a transfer cooler 16 which has a pair of mutually-opposing transfer belts 30, 32 and transfers a sheet formed with an image at least on its one face along a predetermined direction while holding the sheet between the transfer belts 30, 32, and an image reader 18 for reading the image on the sheet transferred by the transfer cooler 16. At the terminal end on the downstream side along the transfer direction of the recording medium in the transfer cooler 16, an image reading face 36 is formed so that the transfer belt 30 further protrudes to the downstream side in the transfer direction more than the transfer belt 32.
