PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically create synonyms from a database without manually preparing rules for extracting synonyms. PSOLUTION: A means 2 for creating common pattern rules extracts as synonym rules pairs of partial character strings that commonly appear in a plurality of synonym groups supplied from a synonym storage part 1. The rules extracted are applied to words in the database 3 to automatically create synonyms. If not stored in the synonym storage part 1, the synonyms created are additionally stored, thereby automatically increasing the number of words registered in the synonym dictionary.
