PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a trim waste jump detection device enabling the quick recovery of a production line stopped due to the occurrence of defect on trim waste by automatically detecting the trim waste moving in the direction different from a predetermined disposal position, and capable of preventing a secondary trouble from occurring due to the occurrence of defect on the trim waste. PSOLUTION: This trim waste jump detection device 10 detects the trim waste moving in the direction different from the predetermined disposal position when the lateral both sides of a steel sheet 12 continuously conveyed on a conveyor line 11 are sheared and removed in the conveying direction by a trimmer 13. The trim waste jump detection device comprises metal detectors 15-17 disposed on both sides of the steel sheet 12 in the thickness direction at intervals from the steel sheet 12 within the range of 1 m from the immediate rear of the trimmer 13 to the downstream side.
