PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the remaining problems of the number of touches and operability even though each alphabetic character is discriminated and inputted with the number of times of pressing a key down by simultaneously designating three or four alphabetic characters in each key of a keyboard with four rows and three columns in the mainstream of an English input keyboard of the present portable IT.SOLUTION: An input system by 17 keys is created by a method for using the complementarity of alphabetic characters in word spelling to respectively set five sets of alphabetic characters of ckq, gj, hiy, sxz, uvw in the same key in an input keyboard with three rows and three columns, making setting so as to simultaneously input the alphabetic characters when the keys are pressed down, displaying the input result on a display and making a selection manually. Input operability close to that of the current personal computer is achieved by combining the input system with a system that divides the 17 keys into two keyboards: one keyboard that takes on inputs of alphabetic characters of high appearance rates in English sentences; and the other keyboard that takes on inputs of the other alphabetic characters, and switches the two keyboards manually.
