PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a summary without missing a scene important in a program in continuous video image data of a drama, or the like. PSOLUTION: In a summary video image creation apparatus, an outline video image extraction section extracts "the last outline video image" from a future video image after a video image becoming an object for making a summary. Consequently, a summary of the entire story including the highlights of each story, which cannot be attained in conventional summary made only from the next trailer, can be made. When "the last outline video image" is extracted, an outline video image discrimination section can extract the n-th story as well as only the scenes which actually feature the n-th story while removing flashbacks and scenes common to respective stories with reference to previous stories.
