A process for producing a rare earth alloy comprises heating a raw material alloy to be a molten alloy, and quench-solidifying the molten alloy, wherein the raw material alloy is compounded so as to have a composition represented by the formula: RE_x(Co_1-yM_y)₄Sb₁₂ (wherein RE is at least either one member of La and Ce, M is at least one member selected from the group consisting of Ti, Zr, Sn, Cu, Zn, Mn and Pb, 0x≦1, and 0y1).
