This invention relates to textile spinning preparatory machine. An improved lap winding apparatus for a lap forming machine comprises a lap head (1) having a plurality of calender rollers (5,6,7& 8) in calendering zone and a pair of juxtaposed unidirectionally driven lap rollers (9,10) to wind a lap roll (12) on a spool (11) is disclosed. The front lap roller (10) and rear lap roller (9) are provided with plurality longitudinal grooves (13) on their peripheral surfaces wherein a groove difference is maintained between said lap rollers (9&10). For example front lap roller (10) is provided with more number of grooves and the rear lap roller (9) is provided with less number of grooves. FIG-1
