摘要

The present invention relates to a method and a system that enables multicasting of a packet. In one embodiment, the method includes identifying of a multicast packet after processing the head/SCP fragment and pre-pending the head fragment to the corresponding headless packet. Pre-pending of the head fragment includes associating a Floating Point Index (FPI) with the packet and inserting the pointer to the headless packet in the head fragment. The method further includes replicating the multicast packet to multiple ports and recovering the buffer by reading only the first chunk.
