A treatment apparatus for operatively correcting myopia or hyperopia in an eye (3) is described which treatment apparatus (1) comprises a laser device (L) that is controlled by a control device (12) and that separates the corneal tissue by applying a laser beam (2). wherein said control device (12) is designed such that said laser device (L) can be controlled so as to emit the laser beam (2) into the cornea (5) such that a lenticule-shaped volume (18) is isolated in the cornea (5), the increase in distance between the volume and the cornea (18) producing the desired correction. Said control device (12), when controlling the laser device (L), predefines the lenticule-shaped volume (18) such that said volume has a minimum thickness (dM) in a region of between 5 to 50 [mu]m. For myopia correction, the minimum thickness (dM) occurs on the edge of the volume (18), and for hyperopia correction the minimum thickness (dM) occurs in the region of the visual axis (OA).
