The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of novel diol functionalized UV absorber and to novel diol functionalized UV absorbers prepared thereby. The invention concerns the synthesis of diol derivatives of conventional UV absorbers useful as condensable monomers for the synthesis of many polymers with in-built UV absorbers.
