A line-start brushless permanent magnet motor assembly includes an unconventional combination of a rotor assembly including a plurality of permanent magnets mounted thereon, and a stator assembly including aluminum winding coils. The unique combination of construction features leads to significant motor performance enhancements at lower incremental cost. The line-start brushless permanent magnet motor assembly may be incorporated into a hermetic compressor, such as may be used in an air conditioning system, to meet high efficiency standards (e.g., seasonal efficiency energy rating).
