NFIF-14b and NFIF-7a (nuclear factor kappa B inducing factor) polypeptides and nulciec acids and their use in compositions for inhibiting inflammation

A nucleic acid encodes a NFIF-7a (nuclear factor kB inducing factor) polypeptide comprising an amino acid sequence as shown in Figure 2 (SEQ ID NO:2). A pharmaceutical composition which lowers the expression or activity of NFIF an contain a nucleic acid antisense to the NFIF gene, a neutralizing antibody that binds to an NFIF polypeptide or a ribozyme that cuts RNA encoding an NFIF polypeptide. Also described are methods for evaluating whether a test compound is effective in inhibiting or enhancing the activity of NFIF-14b or NFIF-7a. An NFkB inducer can be used in the manufacture of a medicament for increasing expression of NFkB in a patient. A NFIF-14b or NFIF-7a inhibitor can be used in the manufacture of a medicament for inhibiting the expression of NFkB in a patient. Preferably the NFIF-14b or NFIF-7a inhibitor is used for inhibiting inflammation in a patient. An NFIF polypeptide or recombinant vector comprising the nucleic acid encoding an NFIF polypeptide, can be used for the treatment or prevention of an NFkB-regulated inflammatory response.
