A portable sign (15) for a traffic cone (11) for directing the attention of a person seeing the sign to the presence of overhead danger or risk. The sign is arrow or triangular shaped with the apex pointing upwards with the tail forming the concentric base (17) or sleeve that fits over the top (13) of the traffic cone coaxially to securely retain and locate the warning sign. The sign is constructed from a single sheet of material, folded and the opposing sides fastened or taped together, or made from two individual blanks or pieces fixed together to form the sign. The sign can be stored flat when not in use.
