The wood chips or the saw dust are distributed on a belt (1) in order to be transported to the pre-heating station. The mat created between perforated belts (2,3) is lifted and guided across a heating station. Hot fluid, preferably a water and air mix, is released through nozzles (5). The perforated belts (2,3) are pre-heated by being pulled along hot plates (4) in order to avoid condensation occurring at the belts (2,3) which are cleaned when returning after having delivered the mat to the press (7).
