The invention relates to a process for separation and purification of hydrogen from gas mixtures coming from various sources, in particular, from biomass processing, and to a system for carrying out said process. According to the invention, the process consists in that a gas mixture containing 40...50% hydrogen and for the remainder CO, CO, HO, C-Calkanes, is subjected to successive cycles of sorption on a sorbent containing a composite consisting of metallic palladium deposited on an inert support, such as ceramics or another material having a grain size of 1...2 mm, at the most, and desorption by means of a heat carrier, after three such cycles there being obtained hydrogen with a purity degree of at least 99.5% by volume. The system claimed by the invention is made as a heat exchanger consisting of overlapping plates (fig. 1) or tubes (fig. 2) which alternately contain sorbent and heat carrier.
