METHOD FOR PREDICTING RISK OF AGE-RELATED MACULODYSTROPHY PROGRESSION FOLLOWING ULTRASONIC PHACOEMULSIFICATION OF CATARACT

The method for predicting the risk of age-related maculodystrophy progression following ultrasonic phacoemulsification of cataract comprises measuring the thickness of the macular area in the retina prior to phacoemulsification, on the first day following the surgery and in one month following the surgery. The measurements are provided with optical coherent tomography. The increase in the thickness of the macular area in the retina by more than 35 µm in one month following the surgery is predictive of the progression of dystrophic processes and decrease in acuity of vision.
