Protection device in an uncontrolled movement of an elevator car, suitable to be coupled to a speed limiter having a pulley (2) on a shaft (3), comprising: a ring gear (5) connected to the pulley; a rocker (6) coupled to the shaft (3) performing a tilting movement with respect to said axis (3), including a locking mechanism acting on the ring gear (5), by means of an electromagnet, solenoid or the like; and an electric detector associated with the locking mechanism and the path of movement of the pivoting support (6) which in a condition where the locking means acting on the ring gear (5), when the tipping support (6) has made a stroke angular displacement, the electrical detector sends an activation signal to a control unit associated with the elevator means operable to stop the elevator car.
