The present invention relates to the "one pot" or single step synthesis of the Gajos dione using an ionic reaction medium. Michael's first reaction stage is described using a swguid ionic liquid of an aldol condensation reaction catalyzed by L-Proline. Said ionic medium, preferably [Mmin] [MeSO {sub, 4}], acts as a solvent and as a catalyst in combination with the catalyst. The process of the invention achieves a yield in obtaining Hajos dione of 84%.
