A method of screening for agents capable of altering the heart rate and regularity of cardiac rhythm, comprising: a. Incubating an embryo or larva transparent teleost in a medium containing a test agent; b. Optionally, immobilizing said embryo or larva on a surface; c. Videotape circulation of blood cells of said embryo or a larva equipped with a camera connected to a microscope recording device; d. Analyze the video software image analysis in which moving blood cells in each video frame are detected and quantified, for a number of data points of each video frame part of the video or the whole video ; and. Apply power spectral analysis to analyze the series of data points, for a heart rate and cardiac rhythmicity index.
