Method to separate mineral impurities associated with them from rocks containing calcium carbonate by the steps of: - crushing and classifying calcium carbonate rocks to a particle size located in the range of particle sizes ranging from 1 to 250 mm, - separating the particles of calcium carbonate by removing particles comprising components other than calcium carbonate by means that are located downstream with respect to a detection zone and are capable of being controlled by computer-controlled evaluation means based on sensor signals resulting from the radiation that passes through a flow of said particles, said radiation being emitted by an X-ray source and captured in at least one sensor means, where the X-rays are allowed to pass at least two filtration devices in relation to mutually distinct energy spectra, located upstream with respect or to the sensor means that are at least one and sensor lines with a plurality of individual pixels located transversely to the particle flow as sensor means, a sensor line being provided for each of the filters that are at least two.
