Process for the preparation of a solution or colloidal suspension of a polymer having (i) a synthesis step comprising living polymerization template-directed functional monomers performed in the presence of a template, thereby producing a complementary polymer in that at least a part is complementary to at least part of the template, and including the step of terminating the living polymerization are formed when suitable for the preparation of the solution or colloidal suspension complementary polymer particles; and (ii) a separation step comprising providing a chromatographic medium with the immobilized template and carry with it an affinity chromatography of the product of synthetic step to isolate a fraction of complementary polymers having a specific affinity for the template.
