A process for producing ethanol from a hydrolyzate of a fraction of sugarcane bagasse hemicellulose, characterized in that it comprises the following steps: a) homogenization of sugarcane bagasse together with sulfuric acid, in which the solid proportion : liquid is in the range of 1: 4 to 1: 2; b) hydrolysis of the homogenized material; c) extraction of the liquid phase (hydrolyzed); d) neutralization of the hydrolyzate; e) filtration of the hydrolyzate; f) fermentation of the hydrolyzate using an initial concentration of Pichia stipitis acclimated biomass, or supplemented therewith, with stirring and oxygenation.
