A method for reducing latency on a voice wireless communication system for voice data, comprising the steps of: generating (800) a plurality of data frames; discarding (806, 806) one or more of said plurality of data frames to produce a plurality of frames of remaining data, wherein the step of discarding one or more of said plurality of data frames comprises the steps of: determining a latency (802) of the communication channel; and discarding (806, 808) each of said plurality of data frames having a position equal to a first encoding rate if said latency encoded rate of the communication channel exceeds a predetermined threshold; and storing (810) said plurality of frames of data remaining in a queue.
