A method (600) of performing automatic gain control (AGC) for wireless communication, comprising: transforming (612) samples in the time domain with a fast Fourier transform (FFT) to obtain domain symbols of the frequency; detecting (614) saturation symbols in the frequency domain of the FFT; and adjusting (616) a gain applied prior to the FFT based on whether saturation is detected.
