The Inmarsat Capacity Expansion invention, in an embodiment to retrofit astandard Inmarsat-B mobile earth station (MES), combines standard MESequipment and functionality with an assembly containing a diplexer/switch anda digital signal processor (802), a second SCPC modem (814) that hasconfigurable modulation and error correction capabilities, control signals andpaths, and related management and control software and hardware to enable thetransmission and reception of standard service types and higher data rateservices.
