The invention relates to a continuous steam generator (1) wherein anevaporator throughflow heating surface (8) isdisposed in a gas duct (6) which can be cross flown in an approximatelyvertical manner in a heating gas device (y),said evaporator throughflow heating surface comprising a plurality of parallelconnected steam generating pipes (12)enabling a flow medium (W) to flow through, also enabling particularly highoperating stability and security duringthe supply of the flow medium (W) having a comparatively high mass flowdensity. The inventive evaporatorthroughflow heating surface (8) comprises a heating surface segment (20) whichcan be cross-flown by the flowmedium (W) in an opposite direction to the gas duct (6), the flow medium sideexit (16) is positioned in such amanner that it can be seen in the heating direction of the gas (y) such thatthe saturated steam generator which isadjusted during operation according to pressure in the evaporator throughflowheating surface (8) deviates by lessthan a maximum predetermined amount from the heating gas temperatureprevailing during operation at the positionof the exit (16) of the heating surface segment (20).
