A photoelectromethanogenic microbial fuel cell apparatus for processing acarbondioxide flow into electricity and methane. The apparatus comprises: (a) aphotosyntheticmicrobial fuel half-cell component having an electron-conductive anode and aphotosyntheticmicrobial culture for converting light and water into oxygen, protons andelectrons; (b) anelectromethanogenic microbial fuel half-cell component having an electron-conductive cathodeand a methanogenic microbial culture for converting a flow of carbon dioxideinto methane usingelectrons and protons produced in the photosynthetic microbial fuel half-cell;(c) an electricalcoupling interconnecting the two microbial fuel half-cells; and (d) an ioniccoupling with anionic separator interconnecting the two microbial fuel half-cells forselectively transporting ionsbetween the microbial fuel half-cell components. A photobiological integratedcarbon captureand recycle technology comprising a photoelectromethanogenic microbial fuelcell apparatus forconverting carbon dioxide and water vapour captured from gas streams from agas-emittingfacility, into electricity and methane.
