The invention relates to an ultrasound measurementsystem and to a method for carrying out ultrasoundmeasurements, with a data acquisition unit (20) and atransducer (12) for coupling an ultrasound pulse into aconnecting element (10) and for extracting anultrasound pulse echo from the connecting element (10).The ultrasound measurement system proposed according tothe invention comprises the data acquisition unit (20)which consists of a combination of analog and digitalelectronics for excitation and driving of thetransducer (12). This is separated from a dataprocessing unit (24) and is in contact therewith via awired or wireless connection (22).
