Provided is a regeneration material that has excellent handleability and that enables regeneration in a shorter period of time than conventional materials without the need for a surgical operation. Also provided is an evaluation method with which the regeneration of tissue can be evaluated effectively. The disclosed material for the regeneration of epithelial-layer-containing tissue includes a high-density collagen matrix and a collagen-binding physiologically-active substance, and is characterized in that the density of collagen in the high-density collagen matrix is 20 mg/mL or greater. The disclosed evaluation method is for evaluating the regeneration of tissue caused by a candidate substance, and involves the following steps (X) and (Y), wherein the density of collagen in the high-density collagen matrix is 20 mg/mL or greater: step (X) of placing a high-density collagen matrix together with said candidate substance on a defective part in the tympanic membrane of an experimental animal; and step (Y) of evaluating the regeneration of tissue in said defective part in the tympanic membrane after said step (X).
