A unidirectionally stretchable base material having high shape retaining performance and capable of being easily reduced in weight.A unidirectionally stretchable base material (1) has: a mesh-like body (2) in which filiform bodies (3) consisting of an elastomeric material having stretchability and thermoplastic properties are arranged so as to be perpendicular to each other; and nonwoven fabric (4) formed from long fibers (5) consisting of a thermoplastic resin. The long fibers (5) of the nonwoven fabric (4) are stretched in one direction and are linearly arranged so as to extend in only one direction. The nonwoven fabric (4) is adhered to the mesh-like body (2) so that the direction (y) in which the long fibers (5) of the nonwoven fabric extend is parallel to any direction (y) along the filiform bodies (3) of the mesh-like body (2).
