The present invention discloses a method and device for configuring network node addresses in a Controller Area Network (CAN) automatically. The method provides a process for transmitting preset address messages and preset address response messages in the CAN communication network, a method for configuring preset addresses and address configuration factors, and corresponding measures taken by each node device according to different types of preset address response messages, and others. The present invention solves the problem of configuring node addresses in the CAN network automatically. The invention adopts a pure-software configuration strategy without additional hardware cost; meanwhile, a self-adapting address detection method enables a simpler address configuration; therefore, the flexibility and the extensibility of the system are greatly improved and the application range is widened.
