An advanced network element equipment and a method for paging terminals in idle mode are disclosed in the present invention. The method includes that: an advanced network element equipment maps legacy paging information of a terminal to be paged to advanced paging information; the advanced network element equipment pages the terminal to be paged by using the advanced paging information. The present invention enables terminals in idle mode to adapt the evolution of system and to work normally, and realizes the aim of power saving.
