The present invention relates to a moulding and piercing unit, employing embossing, pressing or stamping, for the manufacture of cakes from bars or blocks (2) of shampoo or some other detergent or a hygiene product such as soap, comprising at least one moulding assembly (3) and (4) composed of a first moulding die (3) and a second moulding die (4) and gripping means which, after opening said dies (3) and (4), make it possible to take hold of the or each shampoo cake each produced in a moulding and finishing cavity (5) and (6) formed by the closure of the mould. Said unit additionally comprises piercing means (8, 9) designed to produce, simultaneously to the moulding process, at least one piercing in the block (2) which fills the or each moulding and finishing cavity (5) and (6), with the aim being to make at least one through-hole in the or each cake thus produced.
