The method involves monitoring an optical light path between a light beacon and an optical sensor located at a spacecraft i.e. earth observation satellite. Optical free space data transmission is stopped for a longtime, until the path is again produced. Mechanisms for position control of the spacecraft are correctively postpositioned by the light beacon. A low-bit-rate feedback channel is implemented, via which data rates for connecting dynamic data rate adaptation, packet repetition rate for error correction and information regarding negotiated or connection state are transmitted. An independent claim is also included for a system for execution of a method for optical free space data transmission between a communication terminal of a spacecraft i.e. earth observation satellite, serving for earth observation by sensors, and an earth station.
