Disclosed are a method and an apparatus of content-awareness AQM for video transmission in a 3G network, the method comprising: a core router determining a color of a mark of a received data packet; according to the color of the mark of the data packet, calculating an average queue length of virtual queues corresponding to data packets of three colors; and comparing the average queue length with a set parameter to decide whether to discard the data packet. The step of according to the color of the mark of the data packet, calculating the average queue length of the virtual queues corresponding to the data packets of the three colors, specifically comprises: if the data packet is green, calculating and updating the average queue length of the virtual queues corresponding to the data packets of three colors, respectively; if the data packet is not green, calculating and updating an average queue length of virtual queues corresponding to red data packets and yellow data packets. The AQM solution can provide the required QoS guarantee for the network video transmission and enhance the video restoration quality in the case of network congestion.
