The present invention relates to the use of one or more substances, which are selected from the group consisting of bone-marrow-derived mononuclear cells, bone-marrow-derived haematopoietic cells and G-CSF, in a liver resection method for subjects needing liver resection, a pharmaceutical composition for increasing liver volume for the purpose of liver resection, a surgical kit for liver resection comprising an agent for increasing liver volume, and a use for the composition in increasing liver volume for the purpose of liver resection. The present invention improves the function and increases the volume of the liver in subjects who cannot undergo liver resection surgery due to severe liver damage, and renders wide-ranging liver resection surgery possible and thus allows various liver diseases to be treated.
