The invention relates to a method for actuating a wet multiple disk brake, running with cooling oil, especially for a road vehicle, stationary and rotating, radially oriented disks (6, 7) being pressed against one another during braking while overcoming a clearance. The method according to the invention is characterized in that once the brake is released, the disks (6, 7) associated with each other are separated from each other to such an extent as to form an oil-free or substantially oil-free clearance and in that the clearance is minimized prior to braking by advancing the disks (6, 7) towards each another.
