Provided is a method of manufacturing an office automation roller with which it is possible to manufacture an office automation roller with a smooth surface having no raised nap and wherein cell distortion does not arise in the shaft axis direction. A roller material (10), comprising a shaft (11) and an elastic layer (12) which is formed on the exterior circumference of the shaft (11), is prepared. The roller (10) is inserted in a cylindrical mold (m) while constricting the elastic layer (12) in the direction of the center of the diameter. The shaft (11) is moved in the reverse direction to the insertion direction within the cylindrical mold (m) to remove distortions in the direction of the axis of the shaft (11) which have occurred in the elastic layer of the roller material. The roller material (10) is heated together with the cylindrical mold (m). A roller (1) with an elastic layer (2) having a final exterior diameter is obtained by removing the heated roller material (10) from the cylindrical mold.
