The invention relates to a method for drying pasty products, in particular wastewater treatment plant sludge, comprising the following steps in which: the pasty products are introduced into an indirect dryer (11) which supplies dried sludge at one outlet (24) and mist formed by water vapour, non-condensable gases and dust at another outlet (20); a portion of the mist condensation heat is collected in order to be transmitted to the sludge to be dried in the indirect dryer; the mist originating from the indirect dryer is heated (12) and passed through a filter (13), in particular a bag filter, in order to trap the dust, and the filtered mist is compressed (14) before being injected into the indirect dryer for the condensation thereof.
