Disclosed in this invention are a method for automatically discovering a Coaxial Broadband Access Terminal (CBAT) and a method and system for managing an Ethernet Over Coax (EOC) headend device, wherein the method for automatically discovering the CBAT comprises: the CBAT multicasts a first message carrying the basic information of the CBAT; an Optical Network Unit (ONU) captures the first message and then discovers the CBAT. With this invention, the EOC headend device can be discovered by an Optical Line Terminal (OLT) and network manager automatically without Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of the device and network manager being configured in advance, and the holistic topology structure of the Passive Optical Network (PON)+EOC network can be displayed dynamically, and the configuration and management of the EOC headend and EOC terminal can be performed, thus the complexities of management, project establishment and maintenance of PON+EOC network are reduced dramatically.
