The processing center has a tool and workpiece carrying assembly arranged on right and left side walls (5, 6) of a U-shaped machine frame (2) and electromotively controllably displaced in three linear spatial directions. A chip conveyor (51) receives machining residues e.g. machining chips, from a working area of the carrying assembly. A base opening (20) is formed in a bottom (55) of the frame towards the conveyor for removing the machining residues. A large freespace (56) is formed below the bottom of the frame such that the conveyor is extendable below the base opening.
