The invention relates to a system for transmitting electrical power from a direct current line (1) to an alternating voltage network (5) via a self-commutated inverter (9), wherein a diode is associated with the self-commutated inverter (9) on the direct voltage side. In order to be able to reduce the current flow at low cost in such a system in the event of a fault, the diode (8) is disposed with the forward direction thereof in the energy flow direction. In a particularly advantageous embodiment the direct current line (1) is connected to a supplying alternating voltage network (4) via a rectifier (7) with the possibility of reversing the polarity of the direct voltage thereof.
