The invention relates to an ATBM load and to a method for activating said ATBM load, the load having a longitudinal axis XX' for destroying a target C moving along an axis ZZ', said load comprising: a fagot (30) of metallic barrels (12) distributed about the longitudinal axis XX' of the load, said fagot being surrounded by a set of energetic sectors (E1, E2,...Ei,...En), the barrels being embedded in an elastic material (34) configured in such a way as to absorb a part of the energy generated by the activation of at least one of the energetic sectors. Said load also comprises a device for activating energetic sectors. The invention is characterised in that it comprises at least the following steps: detection of the presence of the target, and activation of at least one of the energetic sectors. The invention is applicable to anti tactical ballistic missile loads.
