PURPOSE: A method for preparing trimethylcitryl-beta-D-galactopyranoside(I) is provided to suppresss GABA transaminase and central nervous system. CONSTITUTION: A trimethylcitryl-beta-D-galactopyranoside is prepared by deacetylating trimethylcitryl-beta-D-tetracetylgalactopyranoside(4) which is prepared by coupling galactose pentaacetate to trimethylcitrate(3). The trimethylcitrate is prepared by synthesizing 1,5-dimethylcitrate(2) through selective methylation of citric acid(1). A GABA transaminase inhibitor and central nervous system inhibitor contain trimethylcitryl-beta-D-galactopyranoside(I) as an active ingredient.
