PURPOSE: A refractory for closing a blast furnace tap hole is provided to shorten the aperture time of the refractory for an iron notch(2) closure and increase tapping time. CONSTITUTION: A refractory for closing a blast furnace tap hole comprises at least one of 1-50 weight% of coke powder, 1-90 weight% of waste refractory, and 0.1-20 weight% of blast furnace slag and at least one of Al2O3 , SiO2, and SiC and Fe2O3 comprising the remaining portion. The waste refractory comprises one of 0.5-95 weight% of Al2O4 shaped refractory or a refractory of indeterminate form, 5-99 weight% of a carbon shaped refractory or a refractory of indeterminate form, and 0.5-90 weight% of a SiC shaped refractory or a refractory of indeterminate form based on the amount of component content of waste refractory after use.
