PURPOSE: A system and a method for monitoring an operation of a side trimmer is provided to prevent damage and equipment failure of the steel sheet by detecting a malfunction of a side trimmer and to reduce maintenance costs.;CONSTITUTION: A system for monitoring an operation of a side trimmer comprises a photographing unit, an image processing unit(200), an abnormal operation reading unit(300), and an alarm unit(400). The photographing unit photographs an operation region of a side trimmer. The image processing unit processes images to read the images photographed by the photographing unit. The abnormal operation reading unit receives the images from the image processing unit, thereby deciding an abnormal operation state of the side trimmer.
